Are you having trouble navigating the NDIS?

Through the NDIS, you can choose your supports and which providers you work with. While it’s a good thing, it can be challenging – that’s where CCLO Living can help.

At CCLO we provide the following services:

 • Supported Independent Living and Specialised Disability Accommodation Group Homes
 • Community Participation
 • Support Coordination
 • Occupational Therapy

SIL & SDA Group homes are the best way to allow people with a disability to live independently but also in a group setting, with supports on hand 24/7.

A support coordinator can help you activate your NDIS plan and access your supports. They’ll connect you with people and services in your community, and help you understand your options.

We also offer community participation through a range of lifestyle supports. This will help you build on life skills while getting out-and-about in the community. All of our supports will be tailored to you. Together, we’ll help you feel more independent, while achieving your goals, being creative and having a good time.

Ever wondered how different Community Access Supports and Day Programs can be?

Join us as we delve a little bit deeper into some of the ins and outs of these differences and cover off some of your frequently asked questions.

What is the difference between Community Access Supports and a Day Program?

Community Access Supports are funded under the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) to support participants to physically access environments external to the home. This provides clients access to recreational activities, social opportunities and supports the individual to develop skills and competencies out and about in the community.

At CCLO Living, we believe having access to the community is an essential part of our client’s lives and we do our best to find personalised and innovative activities to suit the needs and interests of each individual.

Community Access Supports can be as creative and innovative as you would like them to be! Generally, Community Access Supports are delivered 1:1 with a team member who can support you to attend appointments, outings, activities or anything you’d like to do in the community. We also offer these supports 1:2 as requested if you’d like to bring a friend along.

If you’d like to learn more about our Community Access Supports for NDIS Participants and how we can support you, have a chat with our friendly team on 02 4353 2411 or pop us an email. We hope to join you out and about in the community sometime soon.

Day Programs on the other hand, usually have a strong focus on community participation and independent living skills. Clients generally attend 3-5 days each week and are involved in life skills, development activities such as cooking, shopping and also communication.
Day Programs are group based, meaning there will be multiple clients attending at any given time. They follow a set program at a centre where community based activities are generally delivered at the same location. Centre-based activities may include a choice between 1-3 activities on any given day, which will be set up in different rooms. Some participants may find this limits their options for a more personalised support if you’d like to participate in activities the set program does not offer.

If you would like more flexibility and to learn more about CCLO Living’s Innovative Community Access Supports and how we can support you, please click here.

What is the aim of Community Access Supports?

The main aim in providing Community Access Supports is to support individuals to remain living in their own homes and to retain as much independence as possible, whilst avoiding social isolation.

At CCLO Living, our Community Access Supports provide support and care to help maintain independence and life skills, and our team are highly skilled & dedicated to the wellbeing of our clients, delivering great opportunities to live independently and happily within the community.

How are Community Access and Day Programs funded?

Funding for Community Access and Day Programs are both funded from ‘Core – Assistance with Social, Economic and Community Participation’ on your NDIS Plan. The difference is generally the prices charged for each service which can be found in the NDIS Price Guide.

Does CCLO Living offer these supports?

CCLO Living offers Community Access with our friendly team of support coordinators and support workers dedicated to working with you to identify and implement personalised community access supports to suit your needs and interests.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can my support worker use a Companion Card?

Yes, absolutely! A Companion Card is available for people living with a significant and permanent disability that allows your Support Worker/Carer/Companion to obtain a second ticket, free of charge, at selected venues and facilities around NSW. If you think you may be eligible, have a chat with the team at CCLO Living who can help you to apply.

Do you offer discreet/unbranded Community Access Supports?

We sure do. At CCLO Living, we support you to access the community on your terms. For some of our clients, this includes the want to be supported by an ‘unbranded’ support worker who looks more like a companion or friend to fellow community members.

It’s your choice whether you’d like your support worker to wear a uniform or drive a company (branded) car for example. Whatever your preference is, have a chat with our team about how we can make your experience more comfortably and uniquely your own.

How can I learn more or get started?

Cabaret Show

Step into the wonderful world of showbiz with the pizazz of a cabaret show. Cabaret is a form of theatrical entertainment featuring music, song, dance, recitation, and drama. These shows are typically seated and have the option to buy drinks and refreshments. If you’re looking for a fun night out, look no further – grab a friend (or two) and book in for dinner and a show!

Fighter World

Calling all history buffs and aviation enthusiasts. Located in Williamtown NSW near the RAAF base, Fighter World showcases the history of fighter operations of the Royal Australian Air Force and it has a large collection of aircraft, most of which are fighters once operated by the RAAF. Fighter World is a totally ‘hands on’ experience and is an Australian not-for-profit aviation heritage centre. Exhibited in two hangars, visitors can walk-around, touch and look into the cockpits of famous aircraft such as the Mirage III, the Avon Sabre, the Gloster Meteor, the first Vampire jet built in Australia and new in 2013 the mighty F-111.

Surfing

Ever wanted to dive into the deep blue and have a go at surfing? Now you can! Adaptive Surfing allows for modifications to be made to the surfboard so that it can be safely and properly by the surfer. Surfing is a great way to improve physical fitness while having lots of fun. To learn more about this service and find out if it’s available in your area, give our team a call.

Bushwalking

Whether you’re a bird watcher, whale spotter, budding photographer or simply love getting out in nature – you’ve simply got to give bushwalking a try! Here on the Central Coast, we are lucky enough to be surrounded by bush lands, wetlands and beaches. Whether you’re up for a walking track and a spot of lunch with a view or grabbing your hiking shoes to find hidden waterfalls, heading out for a recreational hike into our beautiful natural surrounds with scenic views is a great way to enjoy some sunshine & fresh air with the added bonus of being good for both physical and mental health.

Golf Driving Range

Swing into the day with a visit to the golf driving range. This is a dedicated place to practice your golf swing, whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just getting started, all levels are welcome. A visit to the golf range usually entails being able to hire a golf club and a bucket of golf balls from the facility and having free range to practice your swing and hit as many golf balls as you like (until your bucket is empty of course!). Improving your balance, swing and hand-eye coordination, this is a great way to keep active and have fun.

Music festivals & concerts

Music festivals and concerts are organised events. They may feature performances by a solo artist (one musician/band) or various artists, musicians, singers, and groups. These events are generally not seated, so there will be a lot of standing and dancing involved! As the saying goes, music is good for the soul and are a great experience for everyone. They have a vibrant atmosphere and offer a wonderful opportunity to meet new people with similar interests as you!

VR Room Entertainment (Virtual Reality)

Dive into another world with VRRoom Entertainment! This experience offers a self-contained area that is customized with embedded or portable technologies that allow it to deliver or enhance a multimedia virtual reality experience. Whether you’re seeking life-like experiences, escape rooms or games – you’ll likely find them here. Fly solo or collaborate with another player, the choice is yours!

Horse Riding

Learn to ride, drive a carriage or play mounted games with Riding for the Disabled NSW. Supporting people with both developmental and physical disabilities, RDA offers a unique experience to bond with their beautiful horses while aiming to improve confidence and coordination in a safe and supported environment.

Bowling, your way
Take your pick – grab a lane at your local ten pin bowling alley or head to the club for barefoot (or shoes on) lawn bowls. Bowling is both a sport and recreational game loved by many. In ten pin bowling, the goal is to knock over the pins situated at the end of a long playing surface known as a lane or alley. A strike is achieved when all the pins are knocked down on the first roll, and a spare is achieved if all the pins are knocked over on a second roll. Lawn bowling on the other hand, the goal is to get your ball as close to a mark as possible and is rolled along grass, gravel, or synthetic surfaces.

The Australian Reptile Park

From spiders, snakes and crocodiles to birds, roos and platypus’, and of course our beloved koalas, The Australian Reptile Park has one of the largest reptile collections in Australia, with close to 50 species on display. Located in Somersby on the beautiful NSW Central Coast, the park offers a hands-on, interactive zoo experience and is one of the best places in Australia to interact with native animals and catch exciting wildlife shows.

Plaster making & painting

Arts & crafts heaven – you may have done plaster painting before, but have you tried making your own plaster first? Typically a group activity where you will gather in the art barn with a bunch of like minded people, plaster painting is a decorative activity where you can let your creative side run wild! Knowing how much you love to express your creative flare, a day of plaster painting can also include making your own plaster sculptures (and letting them dry) before decorating them. Or if you’re up for a head start, simply choose a sculpture that has already been made, and jump right in and start painting!

So many options, you could try a different activity each week!

Here at CCLO Living, we know no two participants are the same, which is why we love options. From choosing activities to how you’d like to be supported, did you know we also offer discreet Community Access Supports? This means we become “unbranded” as such when delivering supports and can offer a “friend” or “companion” approach.

Being Discreet allows you, as the participant, to choose how you want to be supported and from choosing whether you’d like your Support Worker in uniform or normal clothes, to the vehicle they drive (one of our CCLO Living branded vans or their own personal car), we can cater to your preference.

If you’d like to learn more about Community Access Supports with the CCLO Living team or book in to try one of these Innovative Support Services listed above, give us a call 02 4353 2411 or email us here.

At CCLO Living, our team is dedicated to supporting individuals to achieve their goals and live their best life and the letter of feedback below, from Sam’s family recently, has truly warmed our hearts that we are doing just that!

*The participant’s name has been changed for privacy.

To whom it may concern,
We write this letter of appreciation to CCLO Living SIL team and staff. Sam turned 39 yesterday while in precaution isolation for COVID-19.

Sam has high physical needs and been living with CCLO for just over six weeks. He is the first born son of a very close and loving family and commenced supported independent living approx. 16 years ago with another provider and experienced significant neglect and abuse over this time.

Mid 2019, CCLO reached out and offered Sam a secure SIL home with them as the provider. Given the anxieties around our families past experiences with his old provider his family were overwhelmed they could support him to relocate and get the care and life he more than deserved

In late 2019 Sam prior to his move had severe depression and anxiety and wasn’t sleeping.

His weight had dropped to an all time low of 48kgs as he was no longer eating and spent all his time in bed when not at day program Sam was being heavily medicated and also in nappies 24 hours a day.

Since his transition to CCLO Living home he is the happiest we have seen him in years embracing every day and living his best life. His health has greatly improved he has gained weight and is always busy socialising and is smiling and laughing

We were included with all the birthday celebrations with photos and video calls and he was treated like a king all day even though he couldn’t leave the home due to current health restrictions

Sam’s family will be forever grateful for this new life with CCLO Living and cannot find the words to truly express our gratitude. His health and wellbeing is top priority with all staff.

In these current hard times of 2020 we need to come together and still spread these positive news stories

Thankyou CCLO Living

The post Coronavirus (COVID-19) – Important Information for Clients and Families appeared first on CCLO Living.

]]>
On Behalf of Chief Executive Officer Kevin Johnston.
As you know, there is ongoing and growing concern about the spread of COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus.

This is impacting on us here at CCLO Living, and as a disability support service, we have very specific vulnerabilities. These include:

 • We support many people with supressed or vulnerable immune systems
 • Many of our clients attend group activities or reside in Group Homes.
 • Our clients’ support needs make social distancing difficult to implement
 • Our clients may have multiple visitors in their home
 • Our clients may not understand the risks and additional hygiene measures required
 • Our clients may be dependent on CCLO staff and others for basic activities of daily living
 • Our clients may not have suitable support and/or accommodation contingencies available to them.

While none of this means we need to panic, it does mean we need to respond responsibly in line with government and medical advice and begin planning for a potential worsening of the situation. We urge you to stay vigilant. Please do not attend our site or services if you are showing signs of a runny nose, sore throat, cough, fever or difficulty breathing or have recently returned from overseas. Please wash your hands thoroughly when you enter one of our sites.

What is CCLO Living doing to create a safe environment?

 • In general we would appreciate you restricting your visits to our houses, instead use telephone or skype contact where possible.
 • We are running education sessions on the importance of good hygiene and will increase our supervision in this regard.
 • Where possible, we have reduced overlap between our services – neither staff, nor clients will move between our sites. This not only reduces possible transmission, but also ensures that if one of our sites is directed to close, we will still be able to provide support at other sites.
 • We will continue to provide support in the community (unless advice changes), however, we will not be attending any group programs where we believe adequate measures to restrict the spread of the virus have been implemented.
 • We will avoid any activities that place people in close proximity to others for extended periods such as concerts and movie theatres.
 • We are permitting therapists and specialists to physically come onto our sites, only if essential.
 • We have cancelled all onsite meetings and video/teleconferencing when necessary, will be utilised instead.
 • Our staff will also not attend non-essential meetings or training at external sites.
 • Staff not required to be physically present at the site will work from home.
 • Staff or clients who have returned from any overseas travel will be excluded from the service for 14 days, and will require medical clearance before returning.
 • Staff or clients displaying any symptoms of Coronavirus, will be isolated until they can be sent home and will require medical clearance before returning.

If you are concerned that you or your loved one may be infected:

 • The national 24/7 hotline triages people with respiratory symptoms and those who are concerned about contact with a possible Coronavirus case. If you think you may be infected you can call the triage hotline on 1800 020 080.
 • Suspected Coronavirus patients can present in person to a GP clinic, a dedicated respiratory clinic or to a hospital ED if they call ahead.
 • Please notify us ASAP.

What are the next steps?

Senior management of CCLO are meeting regularly to discuss the current health advice and the impact on our service.

 • As always, you should feel free to call your key contact person if you have any concerns about your family member or the service.
 • We will be continuing to monitor the information provided by the government to ensure the best response in keeping people safe and infection free.
 • The success of any initiatives to mitigate the further spread of COVID 19 will be heavily dependent on all of our personal attention to hygiene and following information circulated by Australian Health Authorities and I know we will all play our part in this.

Regards,
Kevin Johnston
